As it seems like Big Sam is not afraid to make some tough decisions, here is my opinion who should stay and who should go in the summer.
Before I go any further, some of you might think that Alan Pardew tried to make some tough decisions by dropping Julian Speroni and Mile Jedinak last season? You might think that by stripping Jedinak and then selling him to Aston Villa that he was making a tough decision?
Maybe had things worked out differently for him those decisions would be looked back upon in a different light but, unfortunately, they just look like the acts of a man who wanted to exert his authority on the squad.
To compound the situation further he seemed unable to admit he was wrong and pick Speroni when both the other two goalkeepers seemed to be costing us points.
Pardew called that ‘loyalty’ to his players but should loyalty apply to all players and not just the ones letting you down in the team?
Pardew aside, Big Sam has already made some interesting decisions such as dropping club captain, Scott Dann, giving the armband to Jason Puncheon and selecting Martin Kelly over Damien Delaney at centre back.
Sure there are one or two ‘ethical’ questions hanging over Big Sam’s head but one thing he has never been afraid of is dropping people and shipping them out if he doesn’t feel they are good enough.
Just as I did last season on Facebook, here are the players I would move out and the players I would seek to replace if possible.
I’ve listed the players as follows:
Category A – replace them now.
Category B – replace them if money allows, would become squad players.
Category C – sell if we receive an off too good to turn down.
Currently we have 30 senior players. Players under 21 players are not included as they do not require a squad place.
