As you may know I have been critical of the start we’ve made to our season so far, mainly our inability to win our first two home games, I think we’re not far off where I feel we should be.

We’ve won 3 games in a row, which are games I think we should have won so while I think we are not punching above our weight at the moment we will begin to find our level when we start playing more teams who were top 8 finishers last season.

So here are my what I think we should expect from our fixtures based on current squads and will be revised after the January transfer window.

My Prediction Result
West Brom (h)
Tottenham (a)
Bournemouth (h)
Middlesbrough (a)
Stoke (h)
Sunderland (a)
Everton (a)

Liverpool (h)

52 pts -5 pts

As you can see, I don’t see us as an all conquering Palace but also not a walkover for the teams around us and below us.

With that in mind I think we should achieve 52 points which should give us a final league place of 9th or 10th based on the last few seasons. That’s hardly an unachievable goal bearing in mind we finished 10th two seasons ago.

Naturally, as we’ve already seen, we’ll drop point I think we should be getting and we’ll win points I think we’ll drop. Ying and yang.

Do you agree? Do you think I am setting the bar too high or too low? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. I think you have been a bit pessimistic, but I am still worried about tge paucity if resources in defence. Maybe we can fix that in January. If we do I think 62 points and Top 8 is do-able. We are better than 18 months ago and there are many more ‘lower’ teams to have joined the league shorter of resources. Watch out for a big result on Friday that could change your mind!

    • It’s always interesting to receive feedback and gauge where other fans think we’ll finish. Some other people have said I am being a touch negative but I’ve also been ‘told off’ for saying we should have beaten teams like West Brom and Bournemouth and that I think we are 5 points behind where we should be, putting us 2nd right now.

I think with a little luck we can get to the 60 point mark. My initial prognosis was 58 points but I redressed it because I thought I got carried away! We are better than last season but our problem is depth but hopefully Fryers can have a good run.

TBH, I am confident of at least a draw tomorrow, it depends what Bolasie decides to turn up for them.

  2. The current team is quite good and getting better but we need Dann, Zaha and Cabaye firing on all cylinders. The defence has been good despite losing Souare and if this remains solid I think a top 8 finish is achievable. We will also benefit from the new “no holding in the penalty area” because our big men like Benteke and Wickham will have more room and will either score or put the ball down for the others to score. Did you realise that from the Sun’s analysis the Eagles had more crosses and corners than any other side in the top flight this season which will lead to more goals. When you see teams like West Brom and Bournemouth who are quite poor doing quite well we will do OK. Not sure what to make of Stoke or Spurs. If we can score from open play we will do really well and our midfield is quite strong and we have players in depth in these areas. Up the Eagles.
